Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was born on November 30th 1874 and died on January 24th 1965. He was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice: from 1940 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1955.
After the resignation of Neuville Chamberlain in May 1940, Churchill was appointed Prime Minister. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he strongly refused defeat or surrender. He made many speeches and radio broacasts to convince British people that victory was possible.
We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender...
